SATURDAY 7 DECEMBER 2013, 7.45pm, St Cecilia's Hall John Kitchen and Friends – A Celebration of the 250th Anniversary of St Cecilia's Hall John Kitchen and friends will recreate a typical concert given by the Edinburgh Musical Society during its opening season in St Cecilia's Hall (1763–4), using a list of music purchased by the Society in those years. It will include works by Handel, Corelli, Geminiani and Stanley. The Scottish soprano and renowned performer of Baroque repertoire, Lorna Anderson, will be accompanied by a string ensemble directed from the keyboard by John Kitchen who will play a harpsichord from the Russell and Mirrey collection of historic keyboard instruments. This concert is presented in collaboration with the Friends of St Cecilia's Hall. At 6pm Dr Jenny Macleod will give a pre-concert talk about the Edinburgh Musical Society, the commissioning of St Cecilia's Hall and its early days.
